Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What in the world is a ring sling?
A: A ring sling is a long piece of material with two rings sewn on one end. When the material is threaded through the rings it forms a pouch to hold a baby or toddler of any age. A "sling" has been used throughout history and has proven time and time again to provide a cozy and comfy environment for baby. Your baby just spent 9 months curled up in your womb and now he or she wants to remain that way while adjusting to life on the outside. By wearing your baby in a sling you help them feel safe and secure. Aside from the benefits you are giving to your baby, you also get your hands free to go about your day while knowing that your baby is happy and safe.
The ring sling's benefits go beyond just the infant stages however. Your sling can be used well into the preschool years as well. The metal rings are rated for up to 200 pounds so your sling can easily hold your 30 pound toddler. This is great for days when you are out and about and have a tired 2 year old on your hand. No need for a stroller, just strap the child to your hip and the sling distributes the toddler's weight so you can keep him close by with out having to strain your arms.
Between newborn months and the preschool years you can use your sling to carry your infant around facing outward so she can enjoy the same view you enjoy. Unlike other baby carriers the sling allows you to carry your infant facing in, out, on your hip, in a cradle position and even on your back. If you choose to breastfeed, you can even unthread your sling to use it for a cover up when feeding baby in public. I have been "baby wearing" for two years now and I am still learning new ways to carry my baby. So be creative and you will probably discover your own personal style of baby wearing.
Q: I have seen slings on eBay for as little as $20. Why should I buy yours for $55?
A: You get what you pay for, simply put. The ring slings you see are most likely made of a Calico material which is actually made for quilting. While the material is cute and comes in a wide variety of patterns, it simlply isn't constructed for carrying around such precious cargo as a baby, much less a toddler. Think about sheets and thread counts. A higher thread count means a softer sheet and a more cozy nights sleep, the same thing goes for our slings. They are made from quality durable material which ensures a safer environment for your baby or toddler.
I also add extras to my slings. I include a pocket on the end to carry a diaper, travel wipe container, a wallet and keys. I also take time to fold the sling properly around the ring to make it more comfortable on your shoulder when carrying baby. The ribbon accent I use hides the stitching which gives a better finish & also adds a pacifier/toy loop that you don't often see in other slings.
Q: Why else should I choose a Sweet Pea Mama sling?
A: When researching which type of sling to buy before my baby was born I found a plethora of websites that sold ring slings. Each one had at least one thing about them that was unique, but none of them had all of the unique things I was looking for. Aside from the obvious safety standards, I wanted a semi padded shoulder strap, a pocket, a loop to hold a pacifier, keys or a toy, and a long tail.
But most of all, I wanted a cool funky one of a kind fabric. I decided to make a ring sling instead of trying to find "the one." I couldn't stop making them! Ireceived multiple compliments every time I wore one of my ring slings, and from time to time I was asked to make one for expecting mama's. And that's how I got here. I hope you find my slings as unique and funky as you are. Whether you are a mama, grandma, nanny or a friend buying a sling for that expecting mommy friend of yours, you deserve to be unique so show off your style even in your baby wear.
Q: How do I wear my sling?
A: Complete tutorial coming soon
Q: How do I care for my sling?
A: I recommend washing your sling in cold water using a delicate fabric detergent (such as woolite) seperate from other clothing. Hang dry overnight.
Q: Are there any safety concerns I should be aware of?
A: Remember that babies are very fragile. Please use extreme caution in everything you do with yours, including when you wear him or her. I do not recommend wearing your baby around hot items (such as a stove or fire) or in water. Some day I would like to make slings for the water, but until then please do not wear yours in the water. We cannot be held responsible for ANY accidents or negligence while the sling is in use. By purchasing and using this product, you assume all responsibility and liability
If for any reason you have a problem with your sling, stop using it immediately and contact me. I would be more than happy to replace it or your money.
